As an example: annually 88 million passengers pass through the central station. Naturally, it is a popular choice for living. As a result, house prices increase every year.
The smaller cities around Utrecht are profiting from this trend. They offer affordable housing relatively close to Utrecht. Nieuwegein is located just south of the big city. We investigated how we could realise a dense housing project that makes the connection with both its direct environment, as well as the popular centre of Utrecht. The result is a twin-tower configuration placed on a pedestal. The lower part connects to the direct surrounding and has a more public character. Higher up, we connect to the region and make the shift to more privacy.
