Waste wood as circular CLT building material

Waste wood as circular CLT building material

Perhaps we have been building the wrong way for a hundred years. We are building more sustainably, but are we building smarter? For Urban Climate Architects, circular construction Netherlands does not start with more new materials, but by taking a better look at what is already there.

Together with TNO and partners, UCA is investigating how waste wood can evolve into a new circular building material: Circular C-CLT. This ensures that residual wood is not an end point, but a valuable resource for a new generation of timber construction.

As a timber construction architect , Urban Climate Architects explores how biobased construction, material reuse, and smart design choices can contribute to buildings with a lower CO₂ impact. Circular C-CLT demonstrates that CLT construction Netherlands is not just about new wood, but also about making better use of existing raw materials.

For clients working on housing, rooftop extensions, or urban densification, this research offers new opportunities. Timber construction is lightweight, strong, and suitable for projects where speed, material value, and sustainability converge. Read more about our approach as a CLT architect Netherlands.

Circular construction requires a different perspective on buildings. Not as a finished product, but as a materials bank. Materials must retain their value, be demountable, and be reusable in the future. This way of thinking aligns with broader choices regarding timber vs concrete construction, Paris Proof building, and climate-adaptive design.

Also within a sustainable architect tender circular timber construction can guide better design choices. By giving waste wood new value, we create a building culture that wastes less and makes smarter use of what already exists.

Are you working on a project that involves circular construction, biobased building, or timber construction? Urban Climate Architects would love to help you develop a future-proof design strategy.
