Groundbreaking CLT project by Urban Climate Architectsaan de Molslaan: Sustainable and Low-Carbon Timber Construction in Delft (NL)

Urban Climate Architects creates innovative and sustainable architecture with a focus on biobased construction and nature-inclusive design. A leading example of this is our circular apartment complex on the Molslaan in Delft, completed in May 2021. This project shows how timber construction, specifically with CLT (Cross Laminated Timber), can contribute to low-carbon and paris proof designs.

Innovative Timber Construction with CLT

The transformation of an existing school building resulted in a three-storey city block with 12 apartments. The complete construction consists of CLT walls and floors, while the natural wood structure remains visible in ceilings and walls. CLT offers significant advantages over concrete, including an 80% weight reduction, which meant that no additional foundation was required. This makes CLT an ideal solution for sustainable urban densification and circular architecture.

Optimized Biobased Construction Technology

An important focus was on optimizing the construction system within the set of fire and noise standards. Together with JM Concepts, a specialized CLT builder, and their wood advisor, we developed an innovative acoustic front wall solution. This preserves the wood finish in three walls and ceiling, providing a warm, natural look and a healthier indoor climate.

Sustainable and Paris Proof Developments

With our expertise in nature-inclusive and biobased construction, we create environmentally friendly, energy-efficient and aesthetically pleasing living environments. This project contributes to a circular future and proves that architecture and sustainability can go hand in hand.

CLT construction in the Netherlands & timber construction architect Delft

CLT construction in the Netherlands and timber architecture in Delft

At the Molslaan in Delft, we are realising a groundbreaking project in which CLT construction Netherlands, biobased construction and sustainable construction come together. If timber construction architect Delft we are designing a building here that shows how tomorrow's city is already taking shape today.

With building solid wood creates a warm, healthy quality of living in the middle of the existing city.

Mass timber as a carrier of low-carbon architecture

By building with CLT, we consciously choose a material that stores CO₂ and contributes to low-carbon architecture. Where traditional construction methods are heavy and burdensome, wood actually brings lightness and speed.

This project shows how:

  • sustainable construction makes an immediate impact
  • accelerate construction processes
  • a healthy indoor climate is created

Timber construction in the existing city

De Molslaan shows how timber construction architecture fits perfectly into the inner city context. Here, we connect history with innovation and create new quality of living without expanding the city.

With smart design choices, we contribute to:

  • urban densification
  • a sustainable living environment
  • future-proof homes

Sustainable construction, transformation & urban quality

Sustainable construction and transformation in Delft

The project on the Molslaan shows how sustainable construction and transformation of an existing building create a new future together. In the existing city, there is room for innovation, without losing character.

If renovation architect Netherlands and building transformation architect we are working on places that regain meaning.

Biobased construction as a foundation for the future

With biobased construction and CLT construction Netherlands we choose materials that contribute to lower CO₂ emissions and a healthier living environment.

This approach reinforces:

  • nature-inclusive construction
  • climate-adaptive design
  • sustainable urban growth

Smart compaction with wood construction

Inner-city projects require smart solutions. With timber construction, we create space without additional use of land.

Strategies such as:

  • compact building volumes
  • topping building
  • integration into existing structures

make it possible to strengthen and green the city.

From design to quality of life

Architecture is more than just building. With this project, we are creating a place where people feel at home. Where material, light and space come together in a healthy living environment.
