Urban Climate Architects is realising a special project in Harkstede, Groningen: a complete one Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) erected house, designed to be resistant to earthquakes. This innovative design combines timber construction, sustainability and security in one future-proof home.
CLT: The Backbone of Sustainable Timber Construction
CLT is an environmentally friendly, strong and lightweight building material, ideal for earthquake prone areas such as Groningen. The cross-glued layers of wood create a robust and stable construction that is ecologically responsible and energy efficient at the same time.
Innovation in Construction: Efficient and Qualitative
Construction started on November 19, 2024. In cooperation with JM Concepts B.V. and Timmerfabriek Mari Jacobs BV, the frames are installed directly during the CLT installation. This innovative method speeds up the construction process considerably, without sacrificing quality and finish.

In addition to a shorter construction time, this project offers a sustainable solution for comfortable living. The home is energy-saving, circularly designed and constructed with materials with a low CO₂ footprint.
