Transformation of the RTL news studio: Sustainable Timber Frame Construction at Plein 17 in The Hague

Urban Climate Architects realized an innovative transformation of the RTL studio at Plein 17 in The Hague. By opting for timber frame construction and sustainable design principles, the existing media building was transformed into a future-proof and energy-efficient workplace for modern television production.

Timber frame construction as a sustainable construction method

Timber frame construction was deliberately chosen for this transformation because of the ecological benefits. This light and flexible construction technology makes it possible to build with minimal CO₂ emissions, contributing to circular architecture. Thanks to the use of renewable materials and an efficient construction method, this project is an example of sustainable construction in an urban context.

A forward-looking redevelopment

The extension of the building has been carefully integrated into the existing structure and is visually in line with the skyline of The Hague. This smart combination of old and new not only increases usable space, but also strengthens the visual connection between building and city.

Optimized studio layout for a dynamic work environment

Within the studio, the layout has been completely revised to better meet the requirements of contemporary news production. The cabling has been organized more efficiently and the workspaces have become lighter and clearer. These functional adjustments increase productivity and support the speed and flexibility of live media productions.

Example of sustainable transformation in the media world

The renewed RTL studio at Plein 17 shows how transformation, sustainability and timber frame construction come together in one powerful architectural concept. Urban Climate Architects thus shows that redevelopment can not only be environmentally friendly, but also aesthetically pleasing and functionally optimized.

Transformation of RTL news studio into sustainable timber frame construction in The Hague

From studio to future-proof building

At Plein 17 in The Hague, the former RTL news studio gets a new life. This project shows how transformation of an existing building and sustainable construction coming together in an innovative development.

By using existing structures and cleverly combining them with biobased construction, a building is created that is ready for the future. If building transformation architect we design from what is already there, with an eye for quality and impact.
