From scrap wood to a future-proof workspace
We are designing our new office on the Haagweg in Delft. Not a standard office, but a place where the building itself demonstrates what we as Urban Climate Architects believe in. As an office architect we want to show how architecture, material innovation, and a healthy work environment can come together here.
The new office will be built with C-CLT: Circular Cross Laminated Timber made from scrap wood and Dutch timberTogether with TNO, we are investigating how wood that would otherwise end up as waste or low-grade residual material can be repurposed as high-quality structural building material.
This makes our office more than just a new workspace. It becomes a testing ground for Circular CLT and biobased construction. A tangible example of how we can reduce the embodied carbon emissions of buildings. The entire structural frame is designed using CLT made from wood waste streams.
An office as a living lab
Why should we only apply our sustainability ambitions to other people's projects?
In our own office, we have the opportunity to actually build, test, and experience new solutions. As a timber architecture firm in the Netherlands , we are constantly exploring how to create high-quality architecture with less material and a lower carbon footprint.
C-CLT represents an important next step in this process. Together with TNO and other partners, we are working on the development of circular CLT made from reclaimed wood. With the office on the Haagweg, we are bringing this innovation from research into practice.
The building thus becomes a place where clients, developers, municipalities, and other partners can see and experience what circular timber construction can achieve. This connection between research and built practice forms the core of our approach to Research & Innovation.
Biobased, circular, and Paris Proof
We are designing our new office according to Paris Proof principles, with the goal of minimizing the impact of both energy and material consumption.
An efficient timber structure, smart installations, solar panels, and a well-considered material strategy are intended to keep the ecological footprint as small as possible.
We look beyond just the operational phase. The materials we choose to build with today determine a significant part of a building's climate impact.
By repurposing residual wood for construction, making conscious material choices, and designing buildings so that components retain their value in the future, we make circular construction an integral part of our architecture.
From waste wood to C-CLT
Circular CLT gives wood a new life cycle. Residual wood and Dutch timber are processed into high-quality cross-laminated timber panels with structural integrity. Our office will be one of the places where this innovation becomes truly visible and tangible.
We don't just want to build a unique office for ourselves. We want to share knowledge and demonstrate the possibilities that arise when architects, researchers, manufacturers, and builders collaborate from the very beginning.
From waste wood to building material. From research to architecture. And from a single application to a solution that can contribute to the transition of the construction industry on a larger scale.
If you would like to know more about the development of this material, you can also view our project on research into Circular CLT (C-CLT) with TNO .
A healthy workspace for people and nature
For us, sustainability is about more than just CO₂ and materials. Ultimately, we design for people.
Large glass surfaces bring daylight deep into the office. The exposed wooden structure gives the interior a warm and natural aesthetic. This creates a bright, open, and healthy work environment where collaboration, focus, and connection take center stage.
Nature is also given space outside. We are designing a biodiverse garden around the building that buffers rainwater and provides natural cooling during hot periods. Climate-adaptive and nature-inclusive design are therefore part of the plan from the very start.
Building what we believe in
With our new office, we don't just want to imagine the future; we want to build it.
This is where our expertise in CLT architecture, biobased materials, circularity, and research all come together in one building. A workspace where we will soon be surrounded every day by the very materials and solutions we advocate for in our projects.
From residual wood to C-CLT. From research to building. From circular ambition to daily practice.
Not a showroom for sustainability, but a building that demonstrates how we want to build.
